Sam and Max: Season 2 for PC

If you played Sam and Max Season 1, you will DEFINITELY want this season too (get it? Season too, like two?? Aw, shut up…) It is much funnier, with greater insults and psychotic breaks from our friendly sociopathic rabbity-thing, more paranoia and more interesting puzzles, and answers to those questions we lost sleep over from Season 1.

Of course, new-comers are more than welcome and will be scrambling over their mums to get the first Season, and will be wetting themselves for hours like the rest of us!

GAMEPLAY

New-comers and repeat offenders alike will find playing this game as natural as… Any other worldly activity that requires you to control a quirky (and slightly homicidal) bunny (don’t say that to his face, or he will do bad things to you) and his loveable blue-grass- loving dog sidekick (shhh!). There is no fumbling with inventory-on-inventory puzzles, as most conundrums are solved with item-on-person/item interaction. There is even a built-in hint system that comes in the form of Max making thoughtful remarks or simply insulting people, so even then you still have to figure out what “I’m bored” really means.

GRAPHICS

The animation from our friends at Telltale Games is just brilliant. The characters and scenery are simply done, but in that simplicity you get a real feel for things- you can see expressions on people’s faces pop out, instead of having to work through years of wrinkles first, or you see a subtle stream of smoke rising from the ground without being distracted by the detail of the gravel. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but Telltale Games are simple, effective which make for some damn good gaming!

MUSIC

The music is really fun in these games, every scene has its own score, and is played softly in the background to add a really great feel to the game- making shooting at people seem like not such a bad thing…. Hehehe….

But the voice-acting is the shining glory in these games- Flawless, full of emotion and innuendo, homicidal tendencies and buzzing repartee. Unlike many other episodic games, the awesome voices NEVER change and this made me so happy- there are few things I hate more in the gaming world than getting attached to a certain characters voice only to have it ripped away in the sequel. But fear not, you can get clingy to these guys coz they ain’t changing anytime soon!

STORYLINE

Sam and Max: Season 2 (as with Season 1) is split up into 5 episodes- all individual in their own right, but also flowing from one to the other- but I suppose the general storyline consists of true-love (in a really weird way) paranoid delusions, conspiracies and midgets. And Satan offering his services on the street corner for money, but that’s about it. Each episodes' story is hilarious, fun and just a little bit wrong, but you will come to love it in time…Trust me…(evil laughter) (clears throat) Sorry, I was thinking about something else… Yes… Something else….

What more can I say? These games ROCK. You may find them not very time-consuming, but there is no denying that they are downright hilarious and perfectly entertaining, which more than makes up for any downside you can dig up.

Before you rush out and buy this game- DON’T! On eBay, this game is something stupid like 60 bucks, and I haven’t found anyone else that has it, so I DL’ed it straight from the makers- telltalegames.com for 30 bucks USD- which is about 35 bucks AUD. Aussie sellers just jack up the price as high as they think us gamers’ll pay, but I’m smart (ignore the rumours, I am!), no paying for packaging, or pointless manuals I never read anyway, discs that’ll end up scratched or lost, so keep that in mind whenever you wanna get a game- suss shit out first. Telltalegames.com have other great games too, which I’ll tell you about next time!TTFN- Ta Ta For Now!

Edit: Friggin loved the original and we couldn't agree more with Shades well informed and dynamic opinion.
