Memento Mori for PC
Listen, I don’t give a rat’s arse how eerie you make the music, creepy you make the characters or how scary the graphics are…. ART FORGERY IS NOT THRILLING!!
GAMEPLAY
Much what you’d expect from an adventure game, nothing too challenging- most puzzles (were there puzzles?) were straight-forward and not too ‘WTF???’, which it made it a consistent experience. Boring but intelligent.
GRAPHICS
No complaints on the graphics front. None that won’t get me arrested at least. But, considering many other similar adventure games out there, there weren’t any major bugs or discrepancies- No walking through trees here! Nothing terribly special, but nothing terribly bad either, so it was a pleasant enough game in this respect.
MUSIC
One of the first reviews I read about this game, was that the piano score was annoying. Not so. I quite liked the music- It always fit the scene perfectly and at times was rather lovely and pleasant. But even if you disagree, TURN THE VOLUME DOWN/ The voice acting was well done, most characters being Russian or French, they even captured the perfect mix of accents for the one character who was born there but raised over there. Overall, I liked listening to this game- the accents and voice acting being one of the definite high points.
STORYLINE
Ahh, the fun part… Well, not to play but to write about at least! Ok, re-cap: Some art is stolen (ooh, spooky!) and an Interpol chick is sent to investigate. Meh. An ex-con is brought in to help the investigation, he gets a donk on the head, some people start dying, his brother rocks up to provide some comic relief, more death, a trip to Wales where everyone speaks perfect American (is there such a thing, really?) or European (right, why would people in Wales speak Welsh?), a fire, jail, the end. That’s basically it. No shit, that’s all that happens. I feel another big BUT coming up (Hey! Not mine!)
… Wait for it… BUT!
There is a really cool plot twist that I really liked, granted it doesn’t come into the story until the very end and only lasts for about 1 minute, but I appreciated the way that the whole game never let on, or even hinted at it. At first I thought one of the characters had a mental breakdown and started confusing the truth, but it was a little more than that which I applauded.
But if I’d know that that would be the ONLY plot twist in the entire game, funnily enough I would’ve laughed and bought something else.
If you like the idea of stolen art and messed up crooks and a few bald monks and a story that doesn’t add up to anything, by all means waste your money, but don’t come crying to me about it later!!
TTFN- Ta Ta For Now!
